for the rest of us
by Carol Shea-Porter
on Thursday, June 28th 2007 8:55 pm

I ran for Congress in 2006 to help take back our country from the President and the Republican leadership. I ran "for the rest of us" and I pledged to work to end this war, to create a moral domestic agenda, and to be fiscally responsible. I asked for your help and together we won a stunning upset victory.

In the six months that I have been New Hampshire's first Congresswoman, I have spoken out against the war on the floor of the House of Representatives and in the media; I have opposed the troop "surge" and I have refused to give the President a blank check for his war in Iraq. I even traveled to Iraq and Jordan to discuss the war with the generals, including General Petraeus, and to see for myself what was happening there. The trip only convinced me to fight harder to end the war.

I have sponsored legislation to help home health care workers, to protect the Upward Bound program, and to provide increased funding for Pell Grants. I have co-sponsored bills to restore habeas corpus, and to provide better health care for children, seniors, soldiers and veterans.

In addition, I have voted for legislation that Republican leadership has blocked for years -- an increase in the minimum wage, new investment in renewable energy, lobbying reform, whistleblower protection, oversight on "no bid" contracts, fiscal discipline in the budgeting process, and more.

There is a lot more work to do, but I remain deeply committed to serving and representing "the rest of us".

Governor Lynch:
Carol Shea-Porter shows such passion, commitment and dedication to all the issues we care about. Let's do everything we can to get Carol over the finish line on Tuesday!

The Conway Sun today Endorsed Carol.

Shea-Porter for Congress
Friday, November 3rd

The Republicans have abandoned us, and we will not help send one to Washington until they regain their senses and return to their historical role as advocates for limited government, protectors of personal freedom and expression, and responsible stewards of a tough but smart foreign policy.

And it is because we believe the Republicans have failed miserably and totally in handling the war in Iraq--the critical issue of our time--that we endorse Democrat Carol Shea-Porter for New Hampshire's First Congressional District seat.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Shea-Porter and her opponent, Rep. Jeb Bradley, on Wednesday at what in newspaper parlance are called editorial boards, and then watched them debate later that evening at Conway Elementary.

Shea-Porter is the rare politician who has the passion to bring a crowd to its feet, as well the charisma to charm it. As pleasant and articulate as she is one on one, she really lights up in front of a crowd.

Portsmouth Herald Endorses Carol!

After endorsing incumbent Jeb Bradley in 2002 and 2004 the Sunday Herald has decided it is time for a change and is endorsing Carol.

Vote for Shea-Porter is a vote for change
Sunday Herald (Portsmouth Herald, Exeter News-Letter, Hampton Union)
October 29th 2006

With a lame duck president facing a deteriorating situation in Iraq, a serious nuclear threat from North Korea, increasing animosity from former allies and an ever-escalating national debt, the tact Congress chooses to take in the next two years is of utmost importance.

We think a change in direction is necessary and that is why we are endorsing the Democratic candidate for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District seat, Carol Shea-Porter.

The reasons we chose Shea-Porter reflect our disenchantment with the positions taken by incumbent Republican Jeb Bradley as much as our agreement with most of Shea-Porter's well-thought-out positions.

Bradley continues his Pollyannaish support for the president's failed approach to the war in Iraq and his convoluted contention that we must remain there to fight the jihadists brought to that country because of our invasion and continued presence.

Shea-Porter contends we are losing more than face and friends as long as we as we stay in Iraq; we are also losing our sons and daughters. She suggests moving our troops out of harm's way, but not out of the region because of the continuing instability there. Until the sectarian violence that has made the Iraqi government virtually impotent is resolved, this approach makes infinite sense to us.
